Winter Art Stroll: January 13 - 15,

The 2011 Winter Art Stroll is a self-guided tour with a series of satellite art presentations exploring and celebrating contemporary art of Québec. These exhibitions also showcase various trends and directions in contemporary abstract art. The stroll is organized by the Triangle Gallery of Visual Arts.

Practices within an artist-run culture, 1969-2006

Then + Then Again – Practices within an artist-run culture, 1969-2006

is a retrospective exhibition of archives curated by Kingston media

artist Clive Robertson. Robertson worked with various members of

the1960s Fluxus movement, including Robert Filliou, Dick Higgins,

Alison Knowles, as well as Joseph Beuys. Since 1971, he has

collaborated with artist-run centres in Toronto, Ottawa, Montréal,

Kingston and Calgary and currently teaches contemporary art history,

cultural policy and performance studies at Queen’s University. 

 

Then + Then Again  

examines artist collectives as an alternative culture

and emphasizes the productivity of intergenerational exchanges. The

exhibit material, which also has a collectibles display of rubber stamps,

artists books and other ephemera, was selected from 600 images, 40

hours of videotape and 60 hours of audio archives.

Quiet Mutinies: Art in Québec in the 1950’s

The exhibition discusses major trends in the art of Québec in the 1950s ranging from the influence of European figurative 

showcases and analyzes the works of the follosing artists from Québec (many of them original signatories of Refus Global): Paul Émile Borduas, Jean-Paul Riopelle, Marcel Barbeau, Albert Dumouchel, Marcelle Ferron, Françoise Sullivan, Jean-Paul Jerome, Ulysses Comtois, Rita Letender, Fernand Toupin and Rodolphe de Repentigny, amongst others.
