POST Exhibit is pleased to present Façade, an installation by Shyra De Souza.

Friday, January 15, 4 pm to 10 pm: Official openings of the exhibitions/receptions "Façade", an installation by Shyra De Souza.

Saturday, January 16, noon to 5 pm: Installation Open for viewing

This piece, entitled Façade, is an examination of the role of identity and self-expression in residential communities, and a response to the work of Byron Kim's piece entitled Synecdoche.  To complete this work I went to a respected, and affluent residential area on the fringes of Calgary`s residential sprawl. The dominant light yellow/beige/off white colouring is accentuated by the sparse placement of trees and shrubs and nearly flush arrangement of the house facades.   This ambiguous view of the area, with Byron Kim's work in mind, was the catalyst for this piece.  Building on this idea I pose the question of what happens to this individuality when we are faced with the reality of being, or becoming a member of a community that requires a group mentality in order to function.  My intent with this piece is to po  int to the double-edged sword that always exists in that space between the individual and the community-at-large.

The New Gallery

Friday January 15 and Saturday January 16: Gallery open from 10 am to 6 pm

Your face, like a lone nocturnal garden in Worlds where Suns spin round! by Susy Oliveira is a body of work that comes together as a simulated "garden". This installation intends to examine our preoccupation with replacing nature with fabricated versions of itself, as well as delving into ideas of digital and technological reproduction. Susy Oliveira translates an overwhelming sense of wonder and awe into her fictional garden.
