Art Central’s Third Birthday First Thursday November 1st, 5-9pm

Celebrate Art Central’s Third Birthday! Exhibition openings, artist demonstration, live music, and the 4th Annual fashion show by the students of the Alberta College of Art & Design’s Wearable Art Class taught by Dee Fontans.

Art: New Vogue Strikes a Pose

The Alberta College of Art + Design (ACAD) Wearable Art – Object and Body class of 2007, produced the exhibition in motion titled “Art: New Vogue.” The fashion performance will be held First Thursday on November 1, 2007, at 8PM in celebration of Art Central’s third birthday party.

Instructor Dee Fontans works with eighteen students of interdisciplinary practices who come together to create dynamic, radical clothing. Concepts explored deal with issues of gender, nature, and the use of alternative materials and garments. While the performance initially provides venue for the emerging artists to make connections between object and body, they are also given a chance to exhibit their multifaceted talents in sound and music. Heather Rose Johnson, Kiwanis Music Festival gold metal award winner, will be performing accapella, alongside classmates Alexandra Burdeyney, and Michelle Sparks to kick off a night filled with fireworks.

Danielle will be playing from 5pm-8pm

Danielle’s third full-length independent CD, Shadows, has been described as “beautiful strangeness”. Discovering melodies that are somewhat strange, yet somehow familiar, Danielle cruises through the ether, as well as the underworld, with artists such as Jane Siberry and Tom Waits. Shadows features a variety of guest musicians including Martin Tielli (Rheostatics), who played bizarre and beautiful guitars and also leant his gorgeous voice to this project.

Danielle has toured relentlessly throughout North America-. Career highlights include appearing on the Rita McNeil Show and being invited to perform at Lilith Fair.
