 e Fontans and the students of the Wearable Art - Object and Body class.A
 rtists and designers have long been exploring imagery\, fashion and lang
 uage through wearable art. They have often been influenced by fashion an
 d the garment industry. This form of artistic expression gives the indiv
 idual the opportunity to investigate a multidisciplinary practice. Weara
 ble art is a statement which blurs creative boundaries. The artist explo
 res concepts\, material and performance. Both fashion and fine art can b
 e addressed in the context of the body.Artist bioInstructor and Artist\,
  Dee FontansCreativity is the solving of problems. It&rsquo\;s taking ex
 citing material and putting it together in different ways. Believing not
 hing happens in isolation\,  I am concerned with interrelationships of m
 eaning and detail. I express myself through the creation of objects whic
 h embellish and celebrate the body. The body is my influence\, inspirati
 on and motivation. Nick Ward&quot\;I draw influence from the way I imagi
 ne life after the downfall of civilization as well as real-life occult p
 ractices. I exhibit this through the use of materials that have experien
 ced life.&quot\;Nick has always considered himself to be a student of li
 fe. He views hisexperiences at the Albert College of Art + Design as ano
 ther step towards complete personal artistic freedom.Sara Girletz&quot\;
 My love is vintage\, fashions fused with couture. The inspiration is the
  ever classic little black dress. These designs will take the idea of th
 e little black dress out of the ordinary.&quot\;One thing that she&#39\;
 s learned\, is that no matter how enthused she is by the city\, her hear
 t will always belong to her prairie hometown. That is what inspires Sara
 .Ashley Q.The Elephant&rsquo\;s Adornment: This story looks at the relat
 ionship between the elephant and the hunter\; and the lengths to which t
 he hunter will to have the luxury of the elephant&rsquo\;s adornment.Ash
 ley is a citizen of the world living in Calgary.  Ashley&rsquo\;s practi
 ce includes fashion design and a focus on the fine arts.  Ashley&rsquo\;
 s artwork has been exhibited across Alberta\, Canada.Tracy SutherlandTer
 nion:The body breaks down\, from age or illness. Through colour and text
 ure\, Ternion explores the artist&rsquo\;s history regarding disease\, d
 egeneration and the feelings that come with it. Tracy Sutherland is a de
 veloping artist dealing with issues of gender\, relationships\, personal
  histories and mythologies. Originally from Ottawa\, Ontario\, Canada\, 
 she has moved to Calgary\, Alberta to build a base for her art practice.
 Georgia LeeEmerging Elements:Emerging Elements captures the essence of t
 he natural world and the interactive body. Each piece creates an atmosph
 eric aura that is reflective of the four principle facets of the univers
 e. Georgia Lee is a multifaceted artist and designer\, whose practice is
  focused on body adornment. She draws inspiration from the magnificence 
 of nature and its effortless beauty. Ms. Lee is the Production Coordinat
 or for ACAD&#39\;s tenth anniversary of ArtAWEARness.Lindsay JoyLindsay 
 hails from Golden\, British Columbia\, and is a third year fibre major a
 t the Alberta College of Art + Design.  She revels in quirk\, kitsch and
  humor\, while experimenting with various media.A businessman wearing an
  atypical accessory is an intriguing concept. Nontraditional ruffled col
 lars of polyester felt are a reference to the Elizabethan times.  The ju
 xtaposition of glamour\, antiquity and modern materials create a visual 
 tension.Brittney ReumBrittney was born in a small town in British Columb
 ia. She attended two universities before transferring to ACAD. She is cu
 rrently in her second year at ACAD with a focus in fibre and the wearabl
 e.Romance\, elegance\, feline\, intrigue\, unique\, poise\, black &amp\;
  white\, classic\, drama\, glamour\, striking\, grace\, mystery\, film n
 oir\, sly\, distinctive\, feminine\, dark\, captivating\,  femme fatale\
 , secrecy\, seduction.Samantha Huskisson&quot\;I have gained an interest
  in the state of the world and how humanity is overwhelmed by their inne
 r demons. I incorporate a narrative using sculptural methods and found m
 aterials that personify a dark fantasy world representing man and how it
  is affected by the future.&quot\;Samantha Huskisson is a multi media ar
 tist whose practice includes videoperformance incorporating sculpture an
 d wearable art. Her work speaks to thecreation of concepts and ideas thr
 ough the use of her body.Amy MalbeufMom\, will you please pass the milk 
 and are you part Indian too and...:I explore notions of materiality and 
 physicality in the context of contemporary culture. I use a diverse rang
 e of materials\, such as:  animal bones\, glitter\, string\, and farm re
 fuse\, as a vehicle to express my ideas.  Amy Malbeuf is a fourth year d
 rawing major at Alberta College of Art + Design.  She creates art works 
 in the form of drawing\, sculpture\, and costume. Amy is highly involved
  with wearable art practices at ACAD. She has been an artist in ArtaWEAR
 ness for the past two years and is presently one of the coordinators for
  the tenth anniversary of the event. Jennifer Akkermans(I&rsquo\;ve) Had
  Enough of This: Tied Down:Everyone has responsibilities- things we have
  to do\, even if we don&rsquo\;t want to.  Whether it&rsquo\;s a corpora
 te job\, an unhappy marriage\, or rebellious children\, we all have diff
 icult things to live with.  What are yours?Jennifer Akkermans is an expl
 orer\, learner and dreamer.  She sees the ordinaryin unconventional ways
 .  She enjoys humor\, exaggeration\, the mundane\, the unexpected\, and 
 the notion of &ldquo\;ugly&rdquo\;.  She has been keeping journals since
  1992.Chantel TraubThe Palace of Knossos:&quot\;I am fascinated by art h
 istory. The garments are a restoration of the mysterious civilization of
  the Minoans of Crete. The inspiration comes from the myth of the minota
 ur\, beautiful pottery and powerful queens.&quot\;Chantel Traub is a thi
 rd year fibre major at ACAD. She is a mixed media artist\, her main focu
 s deals with the wearable. Her concepts deal with culture\, time\, colou
 r and life in the present day.Ashleigh Amber Moore&quot\;As an artist\, 
 I find interest in the textures\, and patterns found in nature. Theabund
 ance of visual beauty  in the natural landscape of Alberta\, builds a fr
 amework for my artistic endeavors.&quot\;Ashleigh Amber Moore is a pract
 icing jeweller/artist who currently lives in Okotoks\, Alberta where she
 &rsquo\;s attending her last year of studies at the Alberta College of A
 rt +Design\, where she will graduate with a BFA .Jodie  StevensTransflow
 :10 meters of silk flows into multiple effects that the body responds to
 \, that elicits emotion\, that the admirer attributes their own meaning 
 to\, and which they may perceive differently each time they see it.Jodie
   Stevens is a mixed media artist\, using Fibre\, Textile\, Performance\
 , Installation and Wearable Art to allow her creative practice to flow i
 n several directions. Currently working on single creative expressions t
 hat can transform to have multiple results.Laura KellyFlow:Water perpetu
 ally changes form and transforms itself. It is a model by which everythi
 ng is born. In this journey\, driftwood is separated from its once earth
 bound qualities and becomes aquatic. Once again washed onto shore\, natu
 rally interlocked.Laura Kelly is an emerging interdisciplinary artist. S
 he received an entrance scholarship to the Alberta College of Art + Desi
 gn in 2008. Laura is now pursuing a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree as a Gl
 ass major.Anna CunninghamExtensions of Self: An Examination of Auras and
  Egos: Pulled from the body\, lines outreached.  Striations extended out
 ward pushing attention inward. Allure circulates through the work like a
  wave of energy.  It demands attention. And when worn it owns the room.C
 reator. Throughout her life Anna Cunningham has strived to create inspir
 ing\, intriguing and insightful works of art that convey strong emotions
 .  Working in a plethora of mediums she continues to produce cutting edg
 e work.                                                                 
   Barbara WordenFood and modes of eating distinguish era and culture. Di
 nner Dress is made from a tablecloth\, napkins and decorated with fine d
 ining accessories. The second is the fast &ldquo\; super hero&rdquo\; of
  the &ldquo\;super sized&rdquo\; generation.Having been born a grown up\
 , Barbara spent many years and energy climbing the corporate ladder to d
 iscover at the top\, a happy childhood was due so\, stopped her ego&rsqu
 o\;s pursuits to nurture her creative spirit through fibre.

 oaring Bird explores Aboriginal inspired ornamentation of the body\, thr
 oughnatural materials\, found from the Earth. I am interesting in lookin
 g at theEarth and her natural materials as inspiration for body adornmen
 t.Rebecca Taylor is a Cree M&eacute\;tis artist\, from Edmonton\, explor
 ing her Aboriginal heritage and relationship to the Earth though textile
 s. Taylor is currently in her final year\,studying at the Alberta Collag
 e of Art + Design.Leo Casuga Jr.&quot\;I believe that music and fashion 
 work simultaneously to create the way people live their lifestyles. Walk
  To Your On Beats! pays homage to this through Wearable Art and brings f
 orth the music that has developed my own artistic style. Music\, Art and
  Fashion will always collaborate throughout time and I&rsquo\;m the DJ t
 hat will spin it.&quot\;The Rebirth of Leo Casuga Jr. comes from a reali
 zation of new life ambitions. After years in finance\, my new hunger is 
 to create in all facets of life and one day be a shining star in the Fas
