Opening Reception April 1, 2010 6:00pm - 9:00pm Artist in attendance.
Artist Statement: "Epiphanies of the Daily Committed" explores hybridizing the creative techniques and conventions of fine arts painting with comics. Through first person narratives these artworks aim to represent the experiencing of everyday life as a site that is potentially rich with moments of epiphany.
Artist Bio: Grant (Earl) Collins is a visual artist whose image making practices draw on the conventions and techniques of comics and fine arts painting.
Throughout his education in Fine Arts and Communications, Grant has pursued his artistic and sociological interests by questioning the nature and social construction of art as it pertains to contemporary culture.
Grant has collaborated on research projects with faculty from Concordia's Communications Department (Dr. Matt Soar and Dr.Owen Chapman), and has exhibited his artwork in a variety of venues throughout Montreal. He has also worked with Cadmium Scenique on a wide range of film and theater projects, whose clients include: Cirque de Soleil, Vancouver 2010 Olympics (opening ceremonies), and film productions such as “The Aviator”, “300”, and “Night at the Museum”. Through his personal painting commissions Grant has specialized in large format, high-realist, and specialty painting techniques.
Grant teaches courses about making comics during the summer at the Ottawa School of Art and lives with his family in Montreal.
